Dear Pastor,

Abortion. You may not think it is affecting you, but it is.

The PCC is seeing an increasing number of women from local churches for pregnancy testing and limited ultrasound - and she may be attending your church. A teenager. A steady and trusted volunteer. A married woman with children.

You may never know who she is, but we do. We see her pain as she considers her options. We see how she struggles when she thinks about what the people "in her church" would think. We deal with the pain after she has the abortion - going against everything she was ever taught.

Please talk about abortion - with a message of love - from your pulpit. Please help us figure out what our churches can do better to create an atmosphere of love and acceptance for these women when they find themselves pregnant. Please help us create a "culture of LIFE" not a "culture of DEATH" for these women and their unborn children.

The stories we know at our center would break your heart, and you would be surprised to know who the stories involve. We will always remain vague to protect confidentiality - but even this very day we learned of TWO women from local churches who feel abortion is their only option. This is after meeting their child on an ULTRASOUND SCREEN.

Please pray, first of all. Then consider how we can all unite to save lives right here in Grants Pass. If you have any ideas, please call my cell phone directly: 659-5406.

In Christís love, and for the women & babies,

Iím not going to waste time showing the Bible proof that abortion is wrong. We all know instinctively that it is. Nevertheless, consider just a few scriptures and apply a little common sense.

*†† (Luke 1:31 NIV)You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.

*†† (Luke 1:41 KJV)And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

*†† (Mat 1:23 KJV)Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Or how about this from the Old Testament?

*†† (Lev 17:11 NIV)For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.

*†† (Isa 49:1 NIV)Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations: Before I was born the LORD called me; from my birth he has made mention of my name.

It is said that our future is our children. Then what does abortion say about our future? And consider this, the countries with the lowest birthrates tend to be the countries considered to be Christian nations. And not only that but also those countries are beginning to lose their identity as they cannot sustain their population. Patrick J. Buchanan documented this very well in his book, The Death of the West. So not only is abortion a moral issue but a practical one as well.

Perhaps the biggest tragedy is that there are no winners in the realm of abortion. Obviously the unborn child loses his life. How about the mother, the father, the siblings, the grandparents, and as we just saw the entire nation? Well they are all losers too. The following is from, THE ABORTION / SUICIDE CONNECTION by David C. Reardon, Ph.D

*†† Although pregnancy weakens suicidal impulses, there is strong evidence that abortion dramatically increases the risk of suicide. According to a 1986 study by researchers at the University of Minnesota, a teenage girl is 10 times more likely to attempt suicide if she has had an abortion in the last six months than is a comparable teenage girl who has not had an abortion.(2) Other studies have found similar statistical significance between a history of abortion and suicide attempts among adults. Thus, the actual data suggests that abortion is far more likely to drive an unstable woman to suicide than is pregnancy and childbirth.

But, what about the fathers of aborted children? They are losers too. Although the suicide rate for fathers of aborted children is not as high as for mothers they still frequently suffer emotional distress, especially when they want to keep their child but are denied that choice. There are emotional effects for siblings and grandparents as well.

We have already seen that nations are affected in practical ways. But nations are affected morally too. Abortion on demand cheapens the value of life as perceived by the public in general. Is it any wonder that euthanasia is gaining more and more support? Is it any wonder that sexual promiscuity is rampant and the STDs associated with that life style are epidemic?

But arenít those in the abortion industry winners? Certainly not! You canít spill innocent blood and be unrepentant without paying the penalty for your sin. There are many people that think they are winners that will find out they are losers on Judgment Day. And likewise, many that the world considers losers will be found to be winners.

So what responsibility, if any, do we have in this matter? At a very minimum we must speak out whenever the time is opportune, and perhaps much more.

If you observe a serious crime do you have a moral imperative to bring attention to that crime? Of course you do. If you are called into a court of law could you be found guilty if a person died due to your negligence? Certainly. Is turning your back on a situation that is immoral, moral? I mean you didnít actually condone or participate did you? Well, yes you did.

Many people have been found guilty for refusing to act during World War 2 when they knew millions of innocent Jews were being exterminated. Why shouldnít we be found guilty if we fail to act when we know millions of innocent children are being exterminated? If killing six million Jews is a holocaust what do you call killing forty million unborn babies since Roe versus Wade?

OK, so what can I do? What can you do? The answer is up to you as God leads by His Holy Spirit. As a church we already support the Pregnancy Care Center (PCC) with a monthly donation. Is that enough? The PCC is looking for volunteers, would volunteering be enough? From time to time there are street demonstrations right here in Grants Pass. Would demonstrating be enough? How about voting for pro-life candidates and writing your political leaders? Would that be enough? Would all of these together be enough? Each of us must make that decision prayerfully.

When we consider what we might do letís remember all of the losers, not just the child. Letís remember that we must always act with love and in ways that are most likely to bring glory to God. I am always impressed with PCC. They work diligently to help women make the right choice about their unborn child. And when a woman does make the right choice they continue to be supportive even after the child is born. And this really impresses me; they love the would-be mother that chooses to abort their child. They donít pretend that itís OK but they still love the woman just the same. I have to believe this approach is saving lives. And I believe it is bringing people to Jesus. They also work with fathers, the sometimes forgotten part of this problem of abortion.

Yes abortion is a big mistake. Letís not compound the mistake by discarding those that make that big mistake. Itís not enough to simply be against abortion. We need to be for life. We need to be for helping people see the danger of what they are doing when they elect to abort a child. Letís try to help them see a more excellent way, the way of Jesus, the way of life. The way to Life!
