And Nature’s God

 

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

 

Today we are privileged to observe some of those Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God! The Bible clearly states that God is the creator of everything and that we can know this truth by simple observation.

*   (Rom 1:20 NIV)  For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

There is a beautiful sign of God’s covenant relationship between Him and His creation,

*   (Gen 9:13 NIV)  I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

This fact, that God is a creator God, is so fundamental that the Bible begins with a statement of the fact.

*   (Gen 1:1 NIV)  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

And then this theme continues throughout the Bible.

*   (Deu 10:14 NIV)  To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.

*   (Psa 24:1-2 NIV)  Of David. A psalm. The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; {2} for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.

Hear and understand this. Then you will know that God cares for you a great deal.

*   (Luke 12:24-28 NIV)  Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! {25} Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ? {26} Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? {27} "Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. {28} If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!

Are you blind? Yet with your other senses you can still know God. By sound, and taste, and hearing you can “See God” Are you deaf? Yet with your other senses you can still know God. The worst kind of blindness belongs to those who simply will not see. Let me tell you a story about such a blind man.

 

Tell the story of the scientist that deduces intelligent beings from a broken piece of a pot or an arrowhead or a stone shaped like a hammerhead but does not see an Intelligent Being when he holds a bird or sees the order in the universe.

 

Talk about SETI, Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence, and what they would consider proof of intelligence.
