Father Knows Best

Wondering if you should buy that new car? Talk to Father.

Should you keep your job or look for a new one? Talk to Father.

Is it time to marry? Talk to Father.

I am happy and honored that my youngest son often comes to me to talk about things that are on his mind. But I am even more proud that he always talks to his other Father, that is to say his heavenly Father. We both play an important role in his life but God; the heavenly Father, plays the most important role. I am delighted to see how he reacted to some adverse situations in the last year or two. He worked hard to turn a bad situation around but Her always knew that God was actually in control. Did he worry? Sometimes, but worry can be a good thing if it motivates you to do your part. It has been said that God helps those that help themselves. I think there is a great deal of truth in that saying. Still, when we do our part and we find God is faithful in taking care of the rest we need to give God the credit. All good gifts are from God. We donít always see clearly.

*†† Why complain about the rain? Father knows best.

*†† Why complain about the heat? Father knows best.

*†† Why complain about anything? Father knows best.

*†† Why does God allow the things He allows? Father knows best.

Now Iím not suggesting there is nothing to complain about. There are many things to complain about. However, God and the way He handles things is not one of those things.

We know that Jesus is our example of right living. Hear what Jesus had to say about the relationship He had with His Father and our Father.

*†† (John 5:16-19 NIV)So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews persecuted him. {17} Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working." {18} For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. {19} Jesus gave them this answer: "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.

*†† (John 5:30 NIV)By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.

Now if Jesus says He can do nothing by Himself then I think that is even more true of you and me. So do you even know the Father?

*†† (Mat 11:27 NIV)"All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

*†† (Luke 10:22 NIV)"All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."

*†† (Mat 12:50 NIV)For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."

I can identify with this following verse and I suppose all you fathers can as well. If you like and admire my son you have an excellent chance of being liked by me. Even more so if you actually love my son.

*†† (John 14:20-21 NIV)On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. {21} Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."

Everything we need to know is made manifest in Jesus. When asked to show the Father Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen the Father. They are just that close. And Jesus wants us to be that close too.

*†† (John 17:20-23 RSV)"I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word, {21} that they may all be one; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. {22} The glory which thou hast given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, {23} I in them and thou in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me.

God is Love. Love is what identifies us as disciples of Christ. Hate also identifies us as disciples of Christ. And that is OK because Father knows best. It may be difficult to comprehend these things but this we know, (Rom 8:28 NIV)Ö that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

*†† (John 15:15-19 NIV)I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. {16} You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. {17} This is my command: Love each other. {18} "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. {19} If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

The Father of Jesus is our Father. The God of Jesus is our God!

*†† (John 20:17 NIV)Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"

Father knows best. Our heavenly Father knows before we even ask.

*†† (Mat 6:7-8 NIV)And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. {8} Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Let me sum this up with the title of a song we sometimes sing, ďTrust and Obey.Ē (Deu 9:23 NIV)Father knows best.
