The Need for Repentance and the Ruth Principle

Someone that saved my life-Jesus

*†† When you find yourself wrong and going astray you need to change. In the realm of righteousness this change is usually known as repentance.

*†† As individuals we all need to repent and be baptized for all have sinned. That is, we have all done wrong and gone astray.

*†† This need for repentance is not usually a one-time occurrence. For most of us the need for repentance is much like steering a car, we continually need to make changes as we find ourselves going astray. Hopefully, we make the changes in such a way as to never find ourselves far from the way we want to go. Wait too long and you will crash that car! Wait too long for repentance, and like that car, you too will crash! We are to exhort and be renewed daily. Heb 3:13 & 2 Cor 4:16

*†† What is true for us as individuals is also true for us as a nation. A nation is simply a collection of individuals. There is a difference though, not all individuals in a nation have the same need for repentance. However, there comes a time when a nation becomes clearly wrong and definitely astray in collective terms. America today has clearly reached that point.

*†† We Americanís are on the verge of crashing if we donít steer clear of the dangers we are facing. And, I am not speaking of terrorism. I am speaking of our need to seek God and His righteousness. To seek Godly values and abide in them. (2 Chr 7:14 KJV)If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

*†† Consider this scripture and determine if might apply to us, the U.S. today. (Isa 42:23-25 NIV)Which of you will listen to this or pay close attention in time to come? {24} Who handed Jacob over to become loot, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the LORD, against whom we have sinned? For they would not follow his ways; they did not obey his law. {25} So he poured out on them his burning anger, the violence of war. It enveloped them in flames, yet they did not understand; it consumed them, but they did not take it to heart.

*†† Here are just a few of the ways in which we, as a nation, are grievously and indisputably offending God daily. And, for quite some time now.

*†† Adultery

*†† Commonly accepted in many social circles

*†† Promoted by some counselors as healthy for a marriage. Key clubs & open ended marriages

*†† Premarital sex considered smart

*†† Normalized by the media

*†† Homosexuality-NAMBLA, North American Men-Boys Love Association

*†† Commonly accepted in many social circles

*†† Promoted by many ďso calledĒ experts

*†† Normalized by the media

*†† Accepted by some churches and clerics.

*†† Abortion

*†† Commonly accepted in many social circles

*†† Promoted by many ďso calledĒ experts

*†† Normalized by the media

*†† Accepted by some churches and clerics.

*†† Perverting justice- (Lev 19:15 NIV)"'Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.

*†† O. J. Simpson

*†† Barack Obama, Eric Holder, Lois Lerner, Reid and Pelosi, and Bill Clinton

*†† Throwing out evidence

*†† Foreign Aid to evil regimes

*†† Rejecting God- (Luke 9:26 NIV)If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

*†† From schools

*†† Homes through zoning

*†† From public places

*†† Acceptance of foreign gods in the land- (Exo 20:3)Thou shalt have no other gods before me. A jealous God.

*†† Sins of omission.

*†† Standing by and doing nothing when confronted with evil, i.e. acceptance or apathy

*†† Not doing enough when confronted with evil

*†† Failure to speak or take a stand, failure to get involved

*†† Failure to judge when judgment is required

*†† Tolerance of what should be intolerable

*†† Political correctness

*†† Is it too late?

*†† Probably not, but we need to repent as Nineveh repented

*†† (Jonah 3:4-10 NIV)On the first day, Jonah started into the city. He proclaimed: "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned." {5} The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. {6} When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. {7} Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: "By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let any man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. {8} But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. {9} Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish." {10} When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened.

*†† We have seen a lot of calls for prayer and heard a lot of, ďMay God bless AmericasĒ

*†† What we need to hear are calls for repentance followed by actual change consistent with godly behavior

*†† We need to trust more in the power of God and less in our own power

*†† If God be for us then who can stand against us

*†† (Deu 11:22-28 NIV)If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow--to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways and to hold fast to him-- {23} then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you. {24} Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the western sea. {25} No man will be able to stand against you. The LORD your God, as he promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land, wherever you go. {26} See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse-- {27} the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today; {28} the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.

*†† The all religions are good fallacy-(Mark 16:14-16 NIV)Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. {15} He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. {16} Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

*†† It may be true that most religions seek to make people better but that doesnít make them good.

*†† Believers in Christian religion follow a life-giving path. A way that leads to eternal life!

*†† Believers in other religions follow a life-taking path. A way that leads to eternal death!

*†† This may not be popular but it is true just the same. (Acts 4:12 NIV)Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

*†† There was a time when Christians new this to be true. Not Buda or Mohammed!

*†† During that time they were compelled to speak and act accordingly. Hereís why!

*†† When you have knowledge that might save a life you have an obligation to share that knowledge.

*†† You must make a determined and vigorous try to make the endangered person, ďSee the light.Ē

*†† Who would hold back such information from a child? Donít play with fire or knives and donít play in the street. Later we teach donít lie or steal.

*†† Why would you hold back life saving information from anyone?

*†† Conversely, why would you allow anyone to disseminate life endangering information unchallenged?

*††
This brings me to what I call, ďThe Ruth PrincipleĒ

*†† Notice that Ruth was not a Moabite-Israelite.

*†† Ruth accepted her new country and itís ways.

*†† (Ruth 1:15-17 NIV)"Look," said Naomi, "your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her." {16} But Ruth replied, "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. {17} Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me."

*†† She rejected Chemosh, a child sacrificing god.

*†† Ruth became part of the lineage of David and thus of Jesus.

*†† Ruthís attitude illustrates the acceptable behavior for anyone that would live in a God-blessed land such as the USA.

*†† Back to the repentance theme

*†† When this country was founded we were promised, ďFreedom of religion.Ē Today the belief of many people is that there is a right that could be termed, ďFreedom from religion.Ē

*†† This is wrong and dangerous. It is often stated in the form of, ďSeparation of Church and State.Ē

*†† Separation of Church and State is a subtle error worthy of Satan. On the contrary, the founding Fathers knew the need for spiritual people, a predominantly Christian people, to bring their religion to the aid of the state. And, they knew how important it was to keep the state from dictating the religion of a spiritual people.

*†† This is a major area where we need change Ö Repentance. Godís people must not be suppressed while all other people are allowed, even encouraged to promote their false gods.

*†† It is this political correctness, sensitivity, understanding, worship of diversity that has allowed the dramatic increase in foreign gods in America today.

*†† Letís repent and encourage others to repent as well

*†† Letís get on our knees and pray

*†† Then, letís get off of our knees and do something.

*†† Letís change things. Letís lead a revival in this land.

*†† Letís take back this God blessed land and rededicate it to the one true God.

*†† Letís no longer tolerate the, ďAll religion is good fallacy.Ē

*†† Letís insist that people who come to America come as Ruth came.

*†† Letís not pretend that smut is art.

*†† Letís not pretend that vile language constitutes free speech.

*†† Letís quit making alibis for all forms of abhorrent sexual behavior. Homosexuality isnít an alternate life style; itís a perverse and abominable lifestyle.

*†† Letís quit turning our heads and pretending we donít see whatís going on all around us.

*†† Letís shun evil and evil people.

*†† Letís get rid of politicians that will not take a righteous stand or stand righteously!

*†† Letís quit playing word games. Abortion isnít pro choice; itís pro murder. Adultery isnít free sex; itís very costly sex and it leads to unwanted pregnancies, divorce, disease, and death.

*†† Letís get on our knees and pray. Then, letís get off our knees and repent.

*†† Letís change ourselves first and then letís change our country!

*†† Maybe then it wonít sound so shallow when we hear someone plead, ďAnd may God bless America.Ē

*†† Join me in prayer right now

*†† Now, letís get to work while thereís still time left! Here are some things you can do.

*†† Write letters, send emails, make phone calls

*†† Shunning and supporting. Legal, moral, and effective. Put another way, itís peer pressure.

*†† Be heard, speak out. Donít imply approval by silence.

*†† Testify and witness

*†† Constant diligence, do not tire of good works
