Signs of Reverence

1.      (Acts 9:17 NIV)  Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord--Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here--has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

2.     (1 Cor 1:10 NIV)  I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.

3.      (Acts 21:20 NIV)  When they heard this, they praised God. Then they said to Paul: "You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous for the law.

4.     (Rom 16:23 NIV)  Gaius, whose hospitality I and the whole church here enjoy, sends you his greetings. Erastus, who is the city's director of public works, and our brother Quartus send you their greetings.

5.     (1 Cor 7:12 NIV)  To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her.

6.      (Rom 12:10)   Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

7.      (Heb 2:11 NIV)  Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. (Heb 2:12 NIV)  He says, "I will declare your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises."

8.     (Luke 8:21 NIV)  He replied, "My mother and brothers are those who hear God's word and put it into practice."

9.     (Mat 12:50 NIV)  For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."

Recognition of the Pastor as Pastor, Elder, Doctor, Captain, Madam, Sir.

Why is it important to say these things?

A man and a woman had been married for over 30 years. One day the wife says, “John we’ve been married for over 30 years and you’ve never told me you loved me in all that time.”

After a little thought John replied, “Mary, that’s not true. I told you I loved you on the day we married. Don’t you remember?”

Mary admitted, “Yes John that’s true, but that was a long time ago.”

“Well” said John; “If anything changes I’ll let you know.”

A new man. Come out of her my people. How can we show these things?

Affirmation: Visual or Verbal agreement with one another and especially with whoever is speaking the Word of God.

Kneeling: Jesus knelt in prayer before His Father. Others knelt before the Lord. Jesus is our example.

Lifting of hands: (1 Tim 2:8 NIV) I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.

Fasting: Jesus fasted forty days and nights. (Acts 13:1-3 NIV)  In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. {2} While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." {3} So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

Anointing and laying on of hands: (Mark 6:13 NIV)  They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them. (James 5:14 NIV)  Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.

Gifts of the Spirit: (1 Cor 12:7-11 NIV)  Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. {8} To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, {9} to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, {10} to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. {11} All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

(1 Cor 14:1 NIV)  Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.

(1 Cor 14:39 NIV)  Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.

What do you think? Shouldn’t we display more reverence in our fellowship and our worship? Shouldn’t the gifts of God be more active in the Church of God 7th Day in Grants Pass? Shouldn’t we truly be a peculiar people in a wonderful way?

“Humble Thyself in the Sight of the Lord” followed by closing prayer.
