The True Vine

(John 15 NIV)  "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. Showing the relationship between Father and Son. {2} He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. So we should expect a little pruning! {3} You are already clean (Pruned) because of the word I have spoken to you. {4} Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. {5} "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. {6} If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. {7} If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. {8} This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. Hence, what Sherry refers to as “Being a fruit inspector” because it is by our fruits that we are known to belong to Christ.

{9} "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. {10} If you obey my commands, including all the Ten Commandments, like Sabbath for example, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. {11} I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. {12} My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. The love of Christ has and continues to cover a multitude of sins.

{13} Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. {14} You are my friends if you do what I command. {15} I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. What a Friend we have in Jesus!

{16} You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Although Jesus was talking to His disciple here, He was also talking to us.  (Eph 1:4 NIV)  For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.

{17} This is my command: Love each other. Love is the summation of the commandments. Love describes God. God is Love!

{18} "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. {19} If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. {20} Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. {21} They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. {22} If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Jesus was the author of the Ten Commandments. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. {23} He who hates me hates my Father as well. {24} If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. Without law sin is not taken into account. (Rom 5:13 NIV)  for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. {25} But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: 'They hated me without reason.'

(Psa 35:19-21 NIV)  Let not those gloat over me who are my enemies without cause; let not those who hate me without reason maliciously wink the eye. {20} They do not speak peaceably, but devise false accusations against those who live quietly in the land. {21} They gape at me and say, "Aha! Aha! With our own eyes we have seen it."

(Psa 69:4 NIV)  Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal.

{26} "When the Counselor, parakletos, par-ak'-lay-tos; an intercessor, consoler:--advocate, comforter, comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, thus the Counselor is the Spirit of Truth,  who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. {27} And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.

(John 16:1-4 NIV)  "All this I have told you so that you will not go astray. {2} They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God. This has happened in the past and is happening today. In the early church many Sabbath keepers were persecuted and killed and called’ Judaizers” not because of a supposed desire to conform to Judaism, but simply because they did not conform to the Roman church in this and other matters. To be called a Judaizer was like being called a heretic.

{3} They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. {4} I have told you this, so that when the time comes you will remember that I warned you. I did not tell you this at first because I was with you.

Today more than ever before this verse rings true, (Rev 3:11 NIV)  I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.

We need to be about the Master’s business.

We need to be pruned and bear much fruit.

We need to remain in His love and obey His commands.

We need to expect the world to be against us because Christ is for us.

If they Hated our Lord without reason, why would they need a reason to hate us?

We need the Spirit of Truth in us. That Truth is the truth that will set us free.

We have been warned.

Jesus is coming soon!

Like a good Boy Scout, be prepared!
