Words of God

 

(Mat 4:3-4 NIV)The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." {4} Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

(Deu 8:3 NIV)He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

 

The words of God are life giving. The WORD of God is life saving. Consider a few choice words in this scripture.

 

(Phil 4:8 NIV)Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.

 

So I was thinking about such things and realized that the list in Philippians 4:8 were only representative and far from exhaustive. So I started to make my own list of such words that can and should be applied and thought of in terms of our own life and our walk with God! These are words to live by, words to consider, words that can change your life. These are words we should teach our children. These are words we should expect our leaders to exemplify. These are Godly words, words of God! Letís take a look at some of the words on my list. You will undoubtedly think of some I missed. Make your own list and put them on it. I will give you a chance to add your own words at the end of my list. Write them down using the pen and paper in the seat in front of you.

 

Show these words on the overhead one at a time.

 

Integrity, courage, fidelity, character, honesty, faith, hope, love, honor, upright, stability, principled, incorruptible, steadfast, perseverance, trustworthy, brave, fearless, gallant, forgiving, devotion, confidence, reliance, belief, worship, passion, respect, admiration, appreciation, consideration, esteem, ethical, moral, proper, righteous, virtuous.

 

Well, thereís my list. Any of those words could be the basis for a sermon. Now is your chance to mention some I missed.

 

In closing let me revisit Philippians 4:8.
